Majoring in Communications With Applied Business

Social Media Intern – UNH Cooperative Extension

Summer 2017

Responsibilities:

  • creating and analyzing social media campaigns, from start to finish, on multiple platforms
  • live social media coverage of events
  • determining patterns and similarities in popular posts
  • writing blog posts to promote events
  • created social media campaign for “Raise Your Hand for STEM”; getting 228 votes, placing NH STEM in the top 5 states early on; finishing 1st place nationally and receiving 100 free science kits

When I started the internship in June I knew very little about social media patterns or analytics, Adobe programs, or how to create a social media campaign. Over 3 months of working closely with my supervisor, the Social Media Producer, I learned a great deal.

I enjoyed traveling around New Hampshire covering Extension events on social media, altering the platform based on the audience. Given the freedom to create my own campaign, I worked with the program organizer of NH Annie’s Project to utilize social media to promote their retreat. This involved interviewing female farmers around the state who have gone to Annie’s Project events and telling their success stories.

The work I am most proud of was posts I created for the campaign “Raise Your Hand for STEM”. This was a nationwide competition for every state, and the top 10 states with the most votes got 100 science kits donated to the STEM kids. The Twitter and Facebook posts I created generated 228 votes, getting NH into the top 5 of all the states; allowing for NH to finish in 1st place.
